GENDER EQUALITY REALITIES IN ESTONIA

Women and Leadership:

As of 2024, women hold 29.7% of seats in the Estonian parliament. Additionally, women’s representation among ministers increased but they are still less represented in the business world, making up 14% of board members in the largest listed companies.

Women Poverty:

In 2025, Women were at a greater risk of poverty and social exclusion across the European Union women with about 22% compared to around 20% of men. In Estonia, around 15% of women were at persistent risk of poverty.

Gender-Based Violence:

Violence against women remains a concern in Estonia. About 33% of women report that they have experienced physical and/or sexual violence since the age of 15, which is slightly above the EU average.

Sexual Assault and Harassment:

Sexual harassment and other forms of gender-based violence remain a widespread issue across Europe. EU survey data shows that one out of three women has experienced sexual harassment in the workplace.

Education:

Girls and women in Estonia achieve high levels of education. However, gender differences remain especially in study choices with women being less represented in STEM fields. Nonetheless, Estonia has one of the highest shares of women in STEM roles compared to the EU.
